Leo Frank Bauer

Leo F. Bauer, age 93 of Cascade, WI passed away on December 5th, 2016 at Pine Haven Christian Home in Sheboygan Falls, WI, where he had been a resident since August, 2015. Leo was born July 28, 1923 to Arthur E. Bauer and Theresa M. Jacoby, in the township of Lyndon, on a 40 acre farm on the road known as the Die Road, later named Co. Trunk W. At the age of 4 in 1927 the Bauer family moved to a 160 acre farm, known as the Matt Andrews farm on the corner of County trunk W and E across the road from Winooski grade school. He attended this school from 1928 at the age of 5 till the spring of 1934 graduating from 6th grade. The Bauer family moved off the farm, after having an auction of the livestock and machinery. They moved to a farm home in township of Plymouth located on PP, near Glenbulah. Lived there during the summer months, then moved to Fred Halles farm home in German Corners on County trunk Z west of Plymouth. There he attended grade school at German Corners graduating in 1936. In the fall he started at Plymouth High School, till 1939 when the Bauer family moved away from the Plymouth area to a small 27 acre farm, owned by the Kohler Co. Here he attended Kohler High School, with all the neighbor children known as the Lower Falls Road gang. He graduated in 1940 at the age of 16. He worked at home on the farm for a year, and at neighborhood farms, not being of age to work in a factory. After his 18th birthday he went to work at the Kohler factory till Dec. 7th 1942 when he enlisted in the Army/Air force. Leo served in the 9th Air force in England, France, and Germany, landing on Utah Beach D + 45. He was discharged on Feb 9, 1946. Then he returned to his parents home on 27th Street, where they had moved, while he was in the service. Leo went back to work at Kohler Co. where his Dad was working, but went to several other job activities till he qualified for an opening at the Sheboygan Post Office. After working there for 30 years he retired in 1979. Leo was active in bowling teams at the Post Office, sponsored by his brother, Genes Camera Shop. He took up Square and Round dancing and kept active at this during his working days from 1976 to the present. He was in the Big Brothers, having 6 little brothers till the year 2010. He finished 35 years with being a Big Brother. Leo has also been a long time member of the Knights of Columbus. Leo and his Dad also built two homes for his brother two miles north of Sheboygan on old 141, later named Lakeshore Rd. He built his own home at the end of Skylark Drive and lived there till his retirement, when he built his berm home south of Cascade in the township of Lyndon on Silver Creek Road. This enabled him to close the home during the winter months, when he would leave for his home in Florida. Leo was active in the Catholic Church, was baptized at St. Rose of Lima, Five Corners, made his first communion at St. Marys in Cascade, and was confirmed at St. John the Baptist in Plymouth, where he was currently a member. Leo is survived by many nieces and nephews. Leo was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Donald Bauer and Eugene Bauer, and sisters Betty Lau and Dorothy Marchiando. A funeral service for Leo will be held 5:30 PM, Monday, December 12 at Wittkopp Funeral and Cremation Service with Rev. Dennis Van Beek officiating. Burial will be in the Evergreen Cemetery in the town of Lyndon. Family and friends may visit at the funeral home, 123 South Street on Monday from 4 PM until the time of service at 5:30 PM. Military Rites will be accorded. Leos family would like to express a special thank you to the caregivers and staff at Pine Haven Covenant Home, and Sharon S. Richardson Community Hospice. Your compassion and support was greatly appreciated. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been set up in Leos name.
